It's pretty hot out this evening. Hopefully it'll get cooler when the sun goes down. This game has the potential to be a great one. Waukee is flying high after thoroughly beating No.
The Warriors slapped rushing yards on the Hawks, and jumped back into our Class 4A rankings as a result. But these Tigers are tough as nails.
They've outscored their first three opponents by a combined That defense is mean and the offense is explosive and versatile.
Valley also has size up front on both sides of the ball, which is a tremendous advantage. There are a slew of great games in the smaller classes as well.
The usual rules apply here, but for those who are new: I'll update this page frequently with quick thoughts, analysis and instant reactions from tonight's action all across the state, so check back often. I gather most of my information from Twitter, but that doesn't mean I'll see anything.
If you happen across something interesting, send it my way at codygoodwin. That's all I've got for now.
Let's have some fun tonight, and thanks again for reading. End of three here at Valley-Waukee. The Warriors lead, This has turned into the Mitch Randall show. Through three quarters, Waukee's junior quarterback is 9-of for yards and four touchdowns, and he's also ran for another yards on 13 carries.
It's his world, and we're all just living in it. Valley has gotten away from running the ball when it's clearly been a strength tonight.
On a few of their three-and-outs, they're dropping passes or quarterback Beau Lombardi isn't hitting his targets. The Tigers, meanwhile, have rushing yards on 27 carries — and Tre Fugate has on 15 attempts on his own.
We're in for a wild fourth quarter, methinks. So Dowling-Centennial looks like it'll come down to the wire. It's 7-all heading into the fourth quarter. The Jaguars blocked a punt, and then Avery Gates scored on a touchdown to level the game.
Not much from the Warriors in that second quarter, save for a few penalties that hurt. They're up to four penalties for 30 yards on the night.
The first was set up after Bracken Cobb blocked a Waukee punt. The second, Valley orchestrated an play drive and reached the Warriors' yard-line, but settled for just three points. Waukee's defense is very bend-but-don't-break tonight. Ankeny is beating Roosevelt Johnston is beating Muscatine Ames leads Marshalltown Indianola is beating Lincoln Those are some of the scores I've seen so far.
Also, in that Southeast Polk-East game, this apparently happened. End of 1: Waukee 14, Valley 3. Waukee came to play tonight.
A handful of big plays have the Warriors up big on the second-ranked Tigers. Quarterback Mitch Randall hit Sam O'Dell for a yard gainer early in the first quarter, setting up Waukee's first touchdown, a 6-yard pitch-and-catch to Cole Romdall. Then, late in the first, Randall hit Zach Gaines for a yard catch-and-run score.
Gaines got to the edge on the far sideline and sprinted to the end zone, muscling through a few would-be tacklers before crossing the goal line.
A yard Cole Peterson field goal is all Valley has to show so far. The Tigers punted after four plays on their first possession, then Beau Lombardi threw an interception downfield after Waukee's first touchdown. Interesting things are happening here. Longtime head football coach Butch Pedersen is going for win No.
Our guy Dargan Southard will be on hand for that one, and wrote an awesome story on Pedersen ahead of the contest. Ames is playing undefeated Marshalltown tonight, and with the help of a freshman, the Little Cyclones have punched the Bobcats right in the mouth to start the game.
